The Elbow joint is a hinge joint, where the arm (lower end of humerus) and the forearm bones (Radius & Ulna) make a joint surrounded by membranes, muscles and ligaments. During the replacement surgery only the lower end of humerus (Arm bone) and the upper end of ulna (towards the little finger side bone) is replaced.

    • Incision is made on the back of the elbow joint mostly and the damaged cartilage and bone spurs(if any) are removed.
    • The lower end of arm is replaced by a metal alloy stem that fits into it.
    • The upper end of the ulna bone (forearm) is also replaced by another metal alloy stem.
    • Both these implants are fixed with cement to provide proper stability along with mobility.
    • The stems are joined by a connecting hinge pin, which will help in smoothening the movement between them.
    • The incision is closed afterwards followed by a bandage.
