Knee Replacement Surgery - The Procedure requires a lot of technique and attention.

The Incision is made on the skin and the bone is exposed, the patella (Kneecap) is then rotated and flipped to the other side to ensure a good and proper view of the joint.

The damaged surface of the thigh bone named as femur is sliced off for the proper fixation of the metal cap/lid on it.

The damaged cartilages are also removed to ensure proper functioning.

Then the upper end of the leg bone named as tibia is shaved off as well and the cap is fixed on it and then we move the joint to see that it is working and the knee can move and function properly.

The kneecap (Patella) is also provided with the Patellar button (Polyethylene Lid) if required and a plastic spacer/tray is applied between the upper and the lower bone, that is femur and tibia respectively.

After being sure, that the metal shields are in proper harmony with each other, we fix them with the help of the bone cement and the knee is again tested for proper mobility after which the flaps are closed and stitches or staples are applied.

You will be able to stand on the next day and then walk soon after the surgery.

The alternate treatments can delay the Surgery and it depends upon the condition of knees if the patient is eligible for any alternate treatment. The alternate treatments to Knee Replacement are -

  • Stem Cell Treatment
  • Corticosteroid Injections
  • Hyaluronic Injections
  • Arthroscopy etc.
